There's no way to call an apple tree with white bark other than enchanted in that world. Here you may call it well-it-suited-better-the-composition.
Take a peek at the illustrations for this artbook I've made so far. Not every picture I made for it was posted, though.

Graphite, watercolour and white gel pen on 16 x 23.5 cm watercolour paper.
There's a pencil version on my tumblr here, and a photo from a diffrent angle here.
Soundtrack: CÚcile Corbel - Sweet Song

This drew me in because it reminds me of the Susan Jeffers illustrations of "Thumbelina", mostly the compositon and the shading technique.  Delicate, but with a bit of an edge that makes it your own.  Great work!  :)

My first thought is that it's so whimsical a background and so cute that they are having a picnic together. And I don't know if it's just me, but I like the way it almost looks like the beast is hiding behind his wings, like he is either embarrassed or afraid of scaring her. I also liked the way you designed him, so that he doesn't look like an animal but he certainly doesn't look human either, expect his reflection. Which was also a cool idea by the way.

Thank you so much for this thoughtful comment. The Beast indeed isn't content in this picture, mostly due to the place Bella chose for the picnic.

Gaahhh this is gorgeous!! Have they hired you yet to illustrate a book? If not, what's wrong with them, I'd totally buy one with your works on it (unless the book's crap, in that case I'd rather buy an anthology with your works or something of the sort :P)

Well... no (:
However, this illustration will be a part of an artbook I'm preparing. It'll have 20 pictures and my version of this tale.

Anyway, let me know when you finish it! If I can afford it, I'll be the first in line :)

Boil'em, mash'em, stick'em in a stew, like Samwise Gamgee's potatoes. :icongrinstareplz:
I'm going to finish the pictures over the weekend. I suppose I'll have it printed in Summer, if I have enough money by then.

I like that you've made the Beast a birdy animal! I tried doing some drawings of a birdly Beast a couple years ago, but he ended up mostly just looking silly. I admire that you made him look both frightening and majestic. I think the Beast should look elegant- he's still a prince, even if he's a grotesque one. :)

Thank you! For me, the Beast always was bird-like. I've heard the tale before I had a chance to take a look at any illustrations of it, or watch the Disney movie (whish I still haven't seen, actually), and I was rather surprised to see what he's usually portrayed like.

All the depictions of him I saw were always feline, porcine or ursine. But without the restrictions of a 'beast' being a hulking land mammal, there are all sorts of cool animals he could be.
I think a bird works particularly well. They can look both regal and weird (and a little creepy) all at once.

No, I don't use digital art (that was offensive) at all and I listed all the mediums in the description.
